Dans le document de présentation que les patrons de Google ont remis à la SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), ils dressent les différents risques auxquels ils s'attendent à être confrontés. Morceaux choisis:
La concurrence, avec principalement Microsoft et Yahoo, "Currently, we consider our primary competitors to be Microsoft and Yahoo (...) We expect that Microsoft will increasingly use its financial and engineering resources to compete with us. Yahoo has become an increasingly significant competitor, having acquired Overture Services, which offers Internet advertising solutions that compete with our AdWords and AdSense programs, as well as the Inktomi, AltaVista and AllTheWeb search engines"
La forte dépendance de leur revenu avec le marché publicitaire, "We generate our revenue almost entirely from advertising, and the reduction in spending by or loss of advertisers could seriously harm our business."
Une forte absence dans les plans medias et budgets de nombreuses sociétés, "We face competition from traditional media companies, and we may not be included in the advertising budgets of large advertisers, which could harm our operating result"
La répartition de leurs revenus: "Additionally, the margin we earn on revenue generated from our Google Network could decrease in the future if our Google Network members require a greater portion of the advertising fees"
L'absence d'innovation, "If we do not continue to innovate and provide products and services that are useful to users, we may not remain competitive, and our revenues and operating results could suffer."
